In my Mixed Media art I am always trying to create different textures, and I will use some traditional art supplies, and I will also use many very un-orthodox items (Car trim, used dryer sheets, sand, packing material, etc. to get the look I want.

Sumi-e and Sumi-e collage
uploaded by Nola Tresslar

Sumi means ink in Japanese. I usually grind my own ink to paint my work and I will sometime add other elements, such as handmade and hand stained papers. I paint on very thin rice paper and when the painting is finished it will be mounted to a heavier piece of paper before it is framed.

Andrew Sinclair

BA Hons in Fine Art (drawing and painting) at Duncan of Jordanstone. Founder and proprietor of Resipole Studios, Andrew is predominantly figurative in his approach, using a very traditional basis for his painting. His influences range from artists like Valesquez and Rembrandt to the more contemporary Norwegian painter Od Nerdrum. Working on a toned ground the painting is initially painted in monochromatically and then built up in a mixture of opaque and transparent techniques. Painting in the manner of the ‘chiaroscuro\' style of painting, ie using strong contrasting tones to recreate the form, Andrew creates a window into real-life scenes with compositions ranging from intimacy to larger group works. Andrew gathers inspiration from the wide variety of cultures and characters he meets both locally and abroad, currently working on a series of paintings based on local musicians.
